The AI battle is on: ChatGPT vs. Google's latest AI model
In this article, I explore the frontier of AI and comment on the capabilities and potential future of ChatGPT and Google’s new AI model.
There has been a lot of buzz around ChatGPT recently, with many people talking about this cutting-edge technology. Developed by Open AI, ChatGPT is backed by Microsoft, which has invested around $10 billion and owns around 50% of the company.
Recently, Google has also entered the AI war by developing its own AI model to compete with ChatGPT. This development is significant as Google’s search engine is considered one of the most powerful and is used by the majority of people compared to other search engines such as Bing.
However, Google’s recent internal demo of its AI model didn’t go as planned and the results weren’t as accurate as the tech giant had hoped, leading to a drop of more than 10% in the company’s share price. This fall is all the more worrying for Google (i.e. Alphabet Inc.) given that the majority of Google’s revenue, around 50–60%, comes from its search engine. Let’s compare the differences between ChatGPT and Google’s AI model.
Since 30 November 2022, ChatGPT has been available to the general public and has quickly gained popularity due to its advanced language processing capabilities. Google’s AI model, on the other hand, is still in development and has not yet been made available to the general public. Google launched Bard, its answer to ChatGPT, to a group of testers on 7 February 2023 and it has caused quite a stir in the AI community. Experts are speculating about its vast potential capabilities, given Google’s track record and resources. A key difference between the two is that ChatGPT uses trained data and has a knowledge cut-off of 2021. This means that if the data is updated after 2021, ChatGPT may not be able to provide accurate results. Google’s AI model, on the other hand, is still in the testing phase and its full capabilities have yet to be revealed. Given the vast resources Google has at its disposal, a ChatGPT-like chatbot that can also process real-time data is on the horizon, and when that day comes, it will be another giant leap forward in AI chatbot technology.
In conclusion, both ChatGPT and Google’s AI models are exciting advances in the field of AI technology. ChatGPT has already proven its language processing capabilities and has been embraced by the public, while Google’s AI model is still in development but is expected to have great potential. Both companies have invested significant resources into their AI models, and it will be interesting to see how they continue to develop and shape the future of AI. Regardless of who comes out on top, one thing is certain: AI technology is advancing rapidly and has the potential to revolutionise the way we live, work, and interact.
